<창조절 설교>
본문: 시편 8:1-9
제목: 천지의 창조주를 믿습니다. (I believe in God; creator of heaven and earth.

좋으신 우리 주님의 은총과 평강이 다하나교회 교우 여러분들과 함께 하시 길 빕니다. 요즘 따라 계절의 변화를 실감합니다. 교회 들어오다 보면 단풍 나무가 벌써 빨갛게 변했습니다. 도로 주변의 밭들도 황금색으로 변하고 있습니다. 아침 저녁으로 차가운 밤공기는 가을이 왔다는 것을 느끼게 해줍니다. 이런 계절과 자연의 변화를 보며 여러분은 어떤 생각을 하십니까? 해와 달이 뜨고 지고, 계절이 변하는 걸 보며 누군가 이 세상을 정확하게 운행하고 있다고 느껴질 때가 있지 않으세요? 지난 여름 저희 가족이 로체스터로 이사해 오는 길에 만난 자연이 얼마나 아름다운지 다양한 자연환경 가운데서 하나님을 깊이 만나는 시간이었습니다. 엘로스톤이나 요세미티 같은 국립공원에 가면 입이 딱 벌어질 때가 있습니다. 그런 대자연 속에서 하나님의 존재를 느끼지 못하는 것은 정말 어려운 일입니다. 왜냐면 하나님은 자연을 통해 자신을 드러내 보이시기 때문입니다.
어떤 이는 자연을 성경과 함께 하나님의 계시를 볼 수 있는 책이라고 말하기도 했습니다. (우종학, 과학시대의 도전과 기독교의 응답, 29쪽) 일반적으로 성경은 특별 계시로서 예수그리스도를 통해 어떻게 구원이 이루어지는지를 계시해 주는 책이라 하죠. 그런데 성경 외에 하나님이 자신을 드러내신 또 다른 책이 있으니 그것이 바로 자연이라는 책입니다. 자연은 문자로 기록되어 있지 않고 우주와 지구 그리고 지구위에 존재하는 생물의 세계를 포함한 창조세계 속에 담겨 있습니다.(위의 책, 30쪽) 자연 현상을 이해하기 위해 체계적인 틀을 만들고 법칙을 만들어 자연을 설명하려는 노력을 우리는 과학이라고 부릅니다. 우리 중에도 과학자들이 많이 계시는데요. 여러분들은 기본적으로 하나님의 일반은총을 우리에게 설명해주고 적용해 주시는 분이라고 저는 믿습니다. 목사가 특별계시인 성경을 해석하여 하나님을 증거하는 사람이라면, 과학자이신 여러분은 일반은총인 자연 현상을 해석하여 하나님의 존재를 드러내 보이시는 대단한 분들이십니다.
성경은 과학자가 아니더라도 이 대자연 속에서 하나님이 살아계시고 위대하신 분임을 모두가 알 수 있다고 말합니다. 로마서 1장 20절 말씀입니다.
20 이 세상 창조 때로부터, 하나님의 보이지 않는 속성, 곧 그분의 영원하신 능력과 신성은, 사람이 그 지으신 만물을 보고서 깨닫게 되어 있습니다. 그러므로 사람들은 핑계를 댈 수가 없습니다.”
이 말씀에 의하면 자연 속에 하나님이 밝히 드러나 있대요. 하나님의 능력과 신성을 자연속에서 발견하지 못하는 것이 오히려 이상한 일이라는 거죠.

여러분들은 어떻습니까? 자연과 그 자연 안에 있는 생명체들을 보며 창조주 하나님을 느끼시나요? 기독교 신앙은 성삼위 하나님에 대한 믿음에서 시작합니다. 우리가 오늘도 사도신경으로 우리의 신앙을 고백했습니다. 사도 신경의 기본 프레임은 성부, 성자, 성령 하나님에 대한 믿음입니다. 성부 하나님을 창조주 하나님으로 믿고, 성자 예수그리스도를 우리를 구원하신 구원자로 믿습니다. 그리고 성령님은 성자 예수님의 구원과 창조주 하나님의 다스림을 나타내 보여줌을 믿습니다. 사도신경의 첫 소절이 어떻게 시작합니까? “나는 전능하신 아버지 하나님 천지의 창조주를 믿습니다.”입니다. 우리의 신앙은 창조주 하나님을 믿는 것에서부터 시작됩니다.
우리는 전능하신 하나님께서 하늘과 땅을 창조하신 분으로 믿습니다. 이 믿음이 없이 우리의 신앙을 시작할 수 없습니다. 하나님께서 이 세상 모든 것을 창조하셨습니다. 그분은 모든 것을 선하게 창조하셨습니다. 그분은 지금도 그것을 다스리시고 유지시키고 계시며 창조의 행위를 멈추지 않고 계십니다. 여기에서 우리의 믿음이 시작됩니다. 하나님의 창조는 이 땅 뿐만 아니라 저 하늘과 온 우주를 포함한 것입니다. 먼저 이 땅을 보십시오. 땅이 만들어내는 생산성은 참으로 놀랍습니다. 우리 밥상에 올라오는 먹거리들의 대부분을 하나님이 만드신 땅이 생산해 냅니다. 저는 어린 시절 학교에 있는 시간 보다 논 밭에 있는 시간이 더 많았던 것 같아요. 땅을 저주했습니다. 땅이 만들어내는 그 모든 푸성귀들과 곡식들 때문에 저는 놀 수가 없었기 때문입니다. 그러나 철이들어 땅을 생각하니 창조주의 위대한 창조능력을 이 땅이 닮았다는 생각을 하게 됩니다. 어디 땅뿐입니까? 하늘은 더 놀랍과 광대합니다. 우주는 얼마나 클까요?
빛의 속도로 날아가는 광속 우주선이 있다고 전제해 봅니다. 광속 우주선을 타고 태양까지 10분이면 도착합니다. 광속으로 태양계를 벗어나는데 걸리는 시간은 반나절입니다. 그런데 제트 여객기를 타고 태양까지 19년, 태양계를 벗어나는데 천년이 걸린다고 합니다. 태양계만 하더라도 어머어마한 크기라는 것을 짐작할 수 있겠죠? 광속 우주선을 타고 태양에서 가장 가까운 별까지 걸리는 시간은 4년입니다. 우리 눈에는 밤 하늘의 별들이 빼곡하게 몰려 있어 보입니다. 그런데 그 별들 사이의 공간(interstellar)은 광속으로도 수십년이 걸리는 거리로 서로 떨어져 있습니다. 이 별들이 모여 은하를 이루죠. 우리 은하에서 가장 가까이에 있는 안드로메다 은하같은 경우는 지구에서 260만 광년이 떨어져 있고 4천억개의 별로 구성되었다고 합니다. 그런데 이 거대한 별들의 집합인 은하가 한 두개가 아니라는 거죠. 그냥 쉽게 말해서 우주는 큽니다. 어마 어마하게 큽니다. 그런데 그 큰 우주를 창조하고 다스리시는 하나님은 도대체 얼마나 큰 분이실까요? 창조주를 믿는다는 것은 하나님의 광대하심과 위대하심을 인정하는 것입니다. 온 우주를 포함한 창조의 위대함을 알아야 그리스도의 겸손이 얼마나 위대한 것인지 우리는 알 수 있습니다. 우주보다 크시고, 신이신 예수 그리스도가 눈에 보이지도 않는 정자의 크기로 마리아의 몸 속에 들어가 사람이 되신 것은 너무나 놀라운 겸손이자 신비입니다.

오늘 본문인 시편 8편의 저자인 다윗도 하늘과 땅을 바라보며 신비로워 하고 있습니다. “주님의 손가락으로 직접 만드신 하늘과 그 하늘 위에 있는 달과 별들을 보며 내가 놀라지 않을 수 없습니다.” 라고 말합니다. 다윗은 하나님이 천지를 창조하신 분이라는 것을 믿고 있습니다. 그리고 그 하나님이 인간에게 이 땅과 땅 위의 모든 짐승과 생명체들을 대신 다스리게 하신 것에 놀라고 있습니다. 그는 성경뿐만 아니라 자연을 바라보면서 하나님을 느끼고 있습니다. 우주보다 광대하신 하나님이 지구상의 작은 생명체들의 먹고 자는 문제까지 돌보는 세밀한 분이라고 시편 104편은 묘사하고 있습니다. 너무나 광대한 분이 너무나 세밀하게 피조물들을 하나하나 돌본다는 것이 창조주의 놀라운 신비입니다.
하나님을 창조주로 믿는다는 것은 하나님이 만드신 모든 존재들이 선하고 귀하다는 것을 인정하는 것입니다. 이것이 매우 중요합니다. 하나님이 만드신 존재에는 사람은 물론이요 온갖 종류의 생명체도 포함합니다. 본문 4절에서 “사람이 무엇이기에 주님께서 이렇게 생각하여 주시며, 사람의 아들이 무엇이기에 주님께서 이렇게까지 돌보아 주십니까?”라고 고백합니다.이어서 5절은 ” 주님께서는 그를 하나님보다 조금 못하게 하시고, 그에게 존귀하고 영화로운 왕관을 씌워 주셨습니다.” 창조주 하나님을 믿는 이들은 모든 인간은 존귀하다는 것을 깨닫습니다. 왜냐면 모든 인간은 하나님의 형상으로 만들어졌기 때문입니다. 창세기 1장 26절 말씀입니다. “26 하나님이 말씀하시기를 "우리가 우리의 형상을 따라서, 우리의 모양대로 사람을 만들자. 그리고 그가, 바다의 고기와 공중의 새와 땅 위에 사는 온갖 들짐승과 땅 위를 기어다니는 모든 길짐승을 다스리게 하자" 하시고,
인간은 하나님의 형상을 담지한 존재(image bearer)이기에 매우 존귀합니다.
하나님을 창조주로 믿는다는 것은 나의 존재의 가치 뿐만 아니라 다른 이들의 존재의 가치를 인정하는 것을 의미합니다. 내가 정말 싫어하는 직장 동료, 또는 교회 형제 자매일 수도 있겠죠. 나의 PI일 수도 있구요. 그 사람을 통해서도 하나님께서 이루시고자 하는 뜻이 있습니다. 우리가 하나님을 창조주로 믿는다는 것은 내 주변의 모든 이웃들 속에 하나님이 살아 계신다는 것을 믿는 것입니다. 세상의 어떤 사람도 함부로 대해서는 안되는 이유입니다.

더 나아가 하나님을 창조주로 믿는다는 것은 이 자연 속의 모든 만물이 하나님의 특별한 목적과 뜻을 가지고 창조되었다는 것을 믿는 것을 의미합니다. 사람 뿐만 아니라 이 세상에 어떤 미물도 함부로 대해서는 안된다는 뜻도 됩니다. 세상 모든 것들이 창조주 하나님이 선하게 만드신 것이라고 고백한다면 세상의 어떤 것도 우리는 함부로 대할 수 없습니다.
우리가 이 지구상의 생명체들을 애지중지 아끼고 조심조심 절제하며 살아가지 않는다면 지구는 큰 위기 가운데 처하게 될 것입니다. 이미 지구는 기후 위기라는 심각한 상황 가운데 있습니다. 지구 곳곳은 폭염과 강추위로 몸살을 앓아 오고 있습니다. 올 여름 한국의 수도 서울은 폭우로 물폭탄을 맞아 강남이 물바다가 되기도 했습니다. 미국의 서부는 매년 산불로 신음하고 있습니다. 켈리포니아, 오레곤, 워싱턴 주는 사람이 아닌 자연이 만든 불로 몸살을 앓고 있습니다. 모두가 기후 위기에서 생긴 문제들이지요. 무엇보다 2년 반 전에 전세계를 공포가운데로 몰아 넣었던 코로나 사태는 인간이 생태계를 함부로 사용한 결과물입니다. 인간이 자신의 탐욕과 욕망을 채우려고 절제하지 않고 자연을 함부로 이용한 결과 입니다. 인간들이 생태계를 돌보지 않고 생명들을 귀하게 여기지 않자 이제 자연은 재해와 질병으로 인간을 역습해 오고 있습니다. 코로나같은 현상을 바라보며 신음하는 대자연의 울부짖음을 우리는 들어야 합니다. 우리는 피조물들과 조화롭게 사는 법을 배워야 합니다. 그리고 더 슬로우한 삶을 살아가야 합니다. 빠른 리듬의 삶을 포기하고 불편한 삶을 선택할 때 피조세계와 어울려 살아갈 수 있습니다.

이 그림은 올해 창조절을 기념하기 위한 그림입니다. 떨기나무가 불에 타고 있습니다. 그리고 이런 글귀가 적혀있습니다. “Listen to the voice of creation”. 제발 피조물들의 소리를 들으라고 적혀 있습니다. 성경에서 떨기나무는 소외 당한 이들 고통당하고 있는 이들을 상징하곤 합니다. 물이 하나도 없는 광야에서 살아남아야 하는 떨기나무는 볼품이 없습니다. 목질이 거의 없고 덤불로 되어진 버려진 나무죠. 물기가 거의 없기에 동물들이 먹을 수도 없고 그늘을 만들지도 못하는 쓸모 없는 나무가 떨기 나무입니다. 그런데 모세가 미디안 광야에서 양을 치며 호렙산에 이르렀을 때 불에 타고 있는 떨기나무를 보죠. 신기하게 떨기나무는 불에 타 없어 지는 것이 아니라 계속해서 불이 붙어 빛나고 있었습니다. 그리고 하나님께서 모세에게 말씀하십니다. 출애굽기 3장 7-9절 말씀입니다. "나는 이집트에 있는 나의 백성이 고통받는 것을 똑똑히 보았고, 또 억압 때문에 괴로워서 부르짖는 소리를 들었다. 그러므로 나는 그들의 고난을 분명히 안다.
떨기나무는 버려진 백성들을 상징하고, 그 위에 타오르는 불은 그들과 함께 고통당하시는 성령님을 상징합니다. 하나님은 이 땅에서 울부짖는 자들의 소리를 들으십니다. 그리고 성령의 불은 그들 위에 타오르시며 그들을 자유케하고 빛나게 합니다. 하나님은 인간의 부르짖음 뿐만 아니라 피조물들의 탄식도 들으십니다. 지구촌 곳곳에서 신음하고 있는 동식물들과 대자연의 탄식을 하나님은 들으십니다. 아프리카의 성자로 알려진 알버트 슈바이처는 이런 말을 했습니다. “우리가 믿는 하나님은 땅에서 들려오는 신음소리를 “당신의 나라가 임하소서”라는 기도로 들으시는 분이다. “. 인간과 대자연의 신음소리를 듣고 반응하시는 하나님이시라는 거죠.
인간이 초래한 기후 위기가 만들어 낸 화재는 산림과 가옥들을 태우며 재앙이 되었습니다. 그러나 하나님께서 떨기 나무 위에 만드신 불은 떨기나무를 태우지 않으면서도 빛나게 했습니다. 불타오르는 떨기나무가 종살이 하며 버려진 듯한 이스라엘 백성들이지만, 창조절에 우리가 기억해야할 꺼지지 않는 떨기나무는 피조세계를 유지하시고 보호하고 계시는 성령님의 간절한 움직임이기도 합니다. 성령님은 이 땅위에서 부르짖는 이들의 탄식을 외면하지 않으신 것처럼 피조물들의 부르짖음도 외면하지 않으실 겁니다. 특별히 하나님을 창조의 주님으로 믿고 받드는 창조의 절기에 우리는 피조물들의 부르짖음에 귀를 기울여야 합니다. 그리고 그것들을 자유케 하길 원하시는 하나님의 뜻을 따라야 합니다.
교회는 창조주 하나님의 뜻을 받들어 이 지구의 생명들을 아끼고 보전할 의무가 있습니다. 그것이 창세기 1장에서 우리에게 이 땅을 맡기시며 다스리라 명령하신 하나님의 뜻이기도 합니다. 교회가 앞장서 저탄소 운동에 동참해야 하고 자원을 아끼는 데 동참해야 합니다. 제가 미국 서부의 교회들을 방문하며 문화충격을 받았습니다. 교회마다 식당에서 성도들에게 밥을 퍼주는데 일회용 스티로폴 그릇을 사용하더군요. 그 모든 스티로폴이 땅에 묻히면 썩지도 않을텐데 저는 걱정이 됐습니다. 미국에서는 음식물 쓰레기도 일반쓰레기로 같이 버려집니다. 재활용은 뭉뚱그려서 대충 버립니다. 창조주 하나님을 주인으로 모시는 교회는 그러지 말아야 합니다. 우리는 생명을 귀하게 여기고 이 지구가 아름다운 주님의 별이 되도록 힘써야 합니다. 자연 속에서 사람들이 하나님을 만날 수 있도록 이 지구를 잘 보전하고 가꿔야 합니다. 지난 주 텀블러 사용하자고 말씀하니까 우리 여성 교우들 위주로 텀블러와 머그컵 사용에 대한 반응이 있었다고 들었습니다. 남성분들도 다같이 동참하면 좋겠습니다.
내 주변의 사람들이 하나님의 창조물이고 그의 안에 하나님의 형상이 있음을 기억할 때, 우리는 옆에 사람을 귀하게 여길 수 밖에 없습니다. 하나님께서는 그의 신음에 응답하시는 하나님이시며 그를 통해 하나님의 뜻을 펼쳐 가시기 때문입니다. 나아가 모든 피조물을 통해 그분의 영광을 드러내길 원하시는 창조주 하나님의 뜻을 잊지 말아야 합니다. 그러기에 우리는 우리 주변의 풀 한 포기라도 귀하게 여기고 아끼며 살아가야 합니다. 감사하며 살아가야 합니다. 아시시의 성 프란시스코가 노래했던 것처럼 , 태양은 우리 형님이요 달은 우리의 누님이면 좋겠습니다. 어머니인 대지가 만들어 내는 온갖 생명들과 함께 어우러져 창조주를 노래하는 그런 아름다운 세상을 꿈꿨으면 좋겠습니다. 우리 주변의 모든 생명체를 조심 조심 대하고 아껴줄 때 하나님의 창조는 이 땅위에서 더욱 빛나게 될 것입니다. 이것이 창조절을 기념하며 창조주 하나님을 섬기는 우리들의 마땅한 신앙의 태도일 것입니다.

Sermon Title: I believe in God; creator of heaven and earth.

May the grace and peace of our good Lord be with us all at One Heart Church. I sense the change in seasons a lot these days. I noticed on my way to the church that the maple trees have already turned red. The fields around the road are also turning golden. The cool night air in the morning and evening makes you feel that autumn has arrived. What do you think of as you experience these changes in seasons and nature? Watching the sun and the moon rise and set, and the seasons change, don't you feel that someone is leading the world with precision? This summer our family took a road trip as we moved to Rochester. Along the way we experienced how beautiful nature is, and it was an opportunity to meet God deeply in a variety of natural environments. When I go to a national park like Yellowstone or Yosemite, I am in awe at how beautiful it is. It is really difficult not to feel the presence of God in such great nature. Because God reveals Himself through nature.
Some have even said that nature is a book where you can see God's revelation along with the Bible. (Jonghak Woo, The Challenge of the Age of Science and the Response of Christianity, p. 29) In general, the Bible is a book that reveals how salvation is accomplished through Jesus Christ. However, besides the Bible, there is another book in which God revealed Himself, and that is the book Nature. Nature is not written in writing, but appears in the creation world, including the universe, the earth, and the world of living things that exist on the earth. (Jonghak Woo, The Challenge of the Age of Science and the Response of Christianity, p. 30) To understand natural phenomena, we create a systematic framework and make laws to understand nature. The effort to explain is what we call science. There are many scientists among us. I believe you are basically the ones who explain and apply the common grace of God to us. If a pastor is a person who testifies of God by interpreting the Bible, which is a special revelation, then you, as scientists, are great people who reveal the existence of God by interpreting natural phenomena that are common grace.
The Bible says that everyone, even non-scientists, can know that God lives and is great in this great nature. This is Romans 1:19-20. “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
According to these words, God is clearly revealed in nature. It is rather strange that God's power and divinity cannot be found in nature.

What do you think? Do you feel God the Creator when you look at nature and the living things in it? Christian faith begins with belief in the Holy Trinity. Today, we confessed our faith in the Apostles' Creed. The basic frame of the Apostles' Creed is faith in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe in God the Father as our Creator God, and we believe in God's Son, Jesus Christ as our Savior. And we believe that the Holy Spirit reveals the salvation of the Son Jesus and the reign of God the Creator.

How does the first verse of the Apostles' Creed begin? “I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.” Our faith begins with belief in God the Creator.
We believe that Almighty God is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Without this, we cannot begin our faith. God created everything in this world. He created all things for good. He still rules and sustains it, and He does not stop the act of creation. This is where our faith begins. God's creation includes not only this earth, but that heaven and the whole universe. The planet Earth is huge, but how big is that universe? And how big is the God who rules the universe?
Suppose we have a spacecraft traveling at the speed of light. It takes 10 minutes to reach the sun in a spaceship traveling at the speed of light. It takes half a day to leave the solar system at the speed of light. However, it is said that it would take a thousand years to get out of the solar system in an airplane. You can guess that the solar system alone is huge, right? The time it takes to travel from the Sun to the nearest star in a spacecraft at the speed of light is 4 years. To our eyes, the night sky is full of stars. But the interstellar space between the stars is a distance that would take decades even at the speed of light. These stars come together to form galaxies. The nearest galaxy to our galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy, is 2.6 million light-years from Earth and is made up of 400 billion stars. But it's not just one or two galaxies that are a collection of these gigantic stars. Simply put, the universe is big. It's insanely big. But how big is the God who creates and rules this vast universe? To believe in a Creator is to acknowledge the magnification and greatness of God. Only when we know the greatness of creation that includes the whole universe can we know how great the humility of Christ is. It is such a remarkable humility and mystery that Jesus Christ, who is bigger than the universe and is God, entered the body of Mary in the size of an invisible sperm and became a human being.

David, the author of Psalm 8, today’s scripture, looked at nature and was amazed. “I cannot help but marvel at the heavens that the Lord’s fingers have made, and the moon and stars above them, “he says. David believes that God is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. And he is amazed at the fact that God has made man rule over this earth and all the beasts and living things on it. He feels God while looking at the Bible as well as nature. Psalm 104 describes God, who is vaster than the universe, as the meticulous One who takes care of even the problems of eating and sleeping of the little creatures on Earth. It is the amazing mystery of the Creator that such a vast One cares for each creature with so much detail.
To believe in God as the Creator is to acknowledge that all beings created by God are good and precious. This is very important. Beings created by God include not only humans, but also all kinds of living things. In verse 4 of the text, he confesses, “what is man that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man that thou dost care for him?” In verse 5, “Yet thou hast made him little less than God, and dost crown him with glory and honor.” Those who believe in God the Creator realize that all human beings are worthy. Because all human beings are made in the image of God. This is Genesis 1:26-27. “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’ So God created man in his

own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Human beings are very precious because they are image bearers of God.
Believing in God as Creator means acknowledging the worth of not only your own existence, but the existence of others. It could be a work colleague I really hate, or a church brother or sister. It could be my PI. There is a will that God wants to accomplish through that person as well. When we believe in God as our Creator, we believe that God lives in all our neighbors around us. This is the reason why no one in the world should be treated badly.

Furthermore, to believe in God as the Creator means to believe that all things in this nature were created with God's special purpose and will. Not just humans, but even the microorganisms in this world should be treated with care. If we confess that all things in the world are made good by God the Creator, we cannot treat anything in the world without care.
If we do not cherish the living beings on this planet and live with care and restraint, the earth will be in a grave crisis. The planet is already in the midst of a serious climate crisis. All parts of the world are suffering from intense heat and severe cold. This summer, Seoul, the capital of Korea, was hit by a water bomb due to heavy rain, and Gangnam became a sea of water. The American West suffers from wildfires every year. California, Oregon and Washington are suffering from fires created by nature, not man. All of these are problems caused by the climate crisis. Above all, the COVID-19 pandemic that put the world in a panic two and a half years ago is the result of human abuse of ecosystems. It is the result of human beings using nature without restraint to satisfy their greed and desires. As humans do not take care of the ecosystem and do not value life, nature is now counter attacking humans with calamity (disaster) and disease. We need to hear the cry of Mother Nature, who groans while looking at a phenomenon like COVID-19. We must learn to live in harmony with creation. And you have to live a slower life. When you give up the fast rhythm of life and choose an uncomfortable life, you can live in harmony with the created world.

This drawing is to commemorate Creation Day this year. The bush is on fire. And on it is written “Listen to the voice of creation”. Please listen to the creatures. In the Bible, the bush often symbolizes the marginalized and the suffering. A bush that has to survive in a wilderness where there is no water is no good. It's an abandoned tree with little woody parts. A bush is a useless tree that animals cannot eat or use as shade because it has little water. But when Moses came to Horeb while tending sheep in the wilderness of Midian, he saw a bush burning with fire. Miraculously, the bush did not burn out, but continued to glow and shine. And God speaks to Moses. This is Exodus 3:7-9. “I have clearly seen the suffering of my people in Egypt, and I have heard the cry of anguish because of oppression. Therefore I know clearly their suffering.
The bush symbolizes the abandoned Israelites, and the fire burning on it symbolizes the Holy Spirit suffering with them. God hears the cry of those who cry on this earth. And the fire of the Holy Spirit burns upon them, setting them free to shine. God hears not only the cry of man, but also the groaning of creation. God hears the

groaning of animals and plants and Mother Nature in every corner of the globe. Albert Schweitzer, known as a saint of Africa, once said: “The God we believe in hears the groans from the earth as a prayer, “Thy kingdom come.” He is a God who hears and responds to the groans of humans and Mother Nature.
The fires created by the man-made climate crisis have become catastrophic, burning forests and homes. But the fire God made on the bush made it shine without burning it. Although the burning bush is the people of Israel who seem to have been abandoned and enslaved, the unquenchable bush we must remember on the Day of Creation is also the earnest hope of the Holy Spirit, who maintains and protects the created world. The Holy Spirit will not turn away from the cry of creation just as he does not turn away from the groanings of those who cry on this earth. Especially in the feast of creation, when we believe and obey God as the Lord of creation, we must listen to the cry of creation. And you have to follow God's will to set them free.
The church has a duty to protect and preserve the lives of this earth by obeying the will of God the Creator. That is also the will of God who entrusted us with this land and commanded us to rule it in Genesis 1. The church should take the lead and join a low-carbon movement and conserve resources. I was in culture shock when I visited churches in the western United States. Disposable Styrofoam bowls were used to distribute food to the members in the cafeteria of each church. If all the styrofoam were buried in the ground, they wouldn't rot, so I was worried. In the United States, food waste is also disposed of as general waste. Recycling is roughly thrown away. A church that has God the Creator as its master should not do that. We must value life and strive to make this earth a beautiful star of the Lord. We need to preserve and nurture this earth so that people can meet God in nature. Last week, when I came to church, I told them to bring a tumbler and use it, so I heard that female church members discussed transitioning to using tumblers and mugs. I hope we can all join in.
When we remember that the people around us are God's creations and that God's image is in them, we can't help but value the people next to us. This is because God is the God who answers our groanings and unfolds God's will through us. Furthermore, we must not forget the will of God the Creator, who wants His glory to be revealed through all creation. Therefore, we must cherish even a single leaf of grass around us. We should live with gratitude. As St. Francis of Assisi sang, I wish the sun to be our brother and the moon to be our sister. I hope to dream of a beautiful world in which the mother earth sings the Creator in harmony with all life forms. When we take care of all living things around us, God's creation will shine even more on this earth. This must be our proper attitude of faith to commemorate the Day of Creation and serve God the Creator.
